The Senate on Wednesday had set up a bipartisan ad hoc committee to probe the allegation against Senator Elijah Abbo for assaulting a nursing mother.
The committee is to be headed by the former Ebonyi state governor, Senator Sam Egwu.
The Senator who is a member of the People Democratic Party representing Adamawa North Senatorial District slapped a saleswoman at an adult toy shop in Abuja earlier this year.
The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan had set up a panel following a point of order raised by the Senator representing the Kaduna Central Uba Sani.
The Senate leader, Abdullahi Yahaya, minority leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe and Senator Opeyemi Bamidele supported the motion moved by Senator Sani who frown at the action of the Senator.
The Senate President said he had received calls from Nigeria within and outside the country asking the Senator to say what prompted such assaults.
He said it would be unfair on both sides if the Senate passes a judgement based on the viral video clip.

Lawan told the ad-hoc committee to look into the issue and invite the concern individuals and present its report within two weeks.
Other members of the panel are, Senators Oluremi Tinubu, Mathew Urhoghide, Stella Oduah, Dauda Aliu Jika, Sani Musa, and Danladi Sankara.
