Prepare For More protest, TMG Tells Inspector General of Police

Protests would not stop so long as the current regime continues to subvert the wishes of the people, abuse the rule of law and violate the human rights of the people. – TMG

The Transition Monitoring Group on Saturday condemns the police statement to ban the proposed revolution protest slated to hold on August 5th, 2019 saying that they have the approval of the court and have the right to protest.

Dr Abiola Akiyode Afolabi, the chairperson for TMG, said that the Inspector-General of Police should be prepared because they are ready for more protest.

She said, “protests would not stop so long as the current regime continues to subvert the wishes of the people, abuse the rule of law and violate human rights of the people.”

She said, “Nigerians have rights to peaceful assembly, and this has been established by our courts long before now, it’s not the same thing as a treasonable felony, the IGP statement is unwarranted.

“The IGP should be ready for more protests as long as the current regime continues to subvert the wishes of the people, abuse the rule of law and violate the human rights of the people.”
