President Muhammadu Buhari has dissolved the Economic Management Team chaired by the vice president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) and replaced it with an Economic Advisory Council.
Buhari appoints Prof Doyin Salami as the new council Chairman on Monday and other council members include Dr Mohammed Sagagi who is the vice-Chairman, Prof Ode Ojowu, Dr Mohammed Adaya Salisu as the Secretary, Dr Shehu Yahaya, Dr Iyabo Masha, Prof Chukwuma Soludo and Mr Bismark Rewane.
Mr Femi Adesina, the president special adviser on media and publicity made this announcement on a statement.
“This advisory council will replace the current Economic Management Team and will be reporting directly to the President.
He explains the role of the new council saying, “The Economic Advisory Council (EAC) will advise the President on economic policy matters, including fiscal analysis, economic growth and a range of internal and global economic issues working with the relevant cabinet members and heads of monetary and fiscal agencies.”
The President will indirectly be in charge as all report would come directly to him.
“The EAC will have monthly technical sessions as well as scheduled quarterly meetings with the President. The Chairman may, however, request for unscheduled meetings if the need arises.”
