Despite having four years to the next Presidential election, the debate of who is the next president has kicked off, ranging from social media to sponsored campaign posters been posted in some key parts of the country.
Bola Tinubu, Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State and Adams Oshiomhole top the list of contenders already making waves of interest ahead of the 2023 general election.
In Kaduna city, inscriptions like ‘El- Rufai 2023 (Mai Aiki) for President, Federal Republic of Nigeria’, sponsored by the Northern Youth Forum were spotted in diverse parts of the state on Sunday, whereas in Ikeja, a large billboard of Tinubu was also spotted around ‘Ikeja Along’ bus-stop, with the inscription, ‘BAT 2023′, while in Abuja, posters of Oshiomhole as President and el-Rufai as the vice president are in circulation, which was sponsored by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria.
Though none of these alleges aspirants have made an open declaration of interest in the presidential position, but rumours had it that they have an interest.
Condemning these act, Anthony Sani, the National Secretary of Arewa Consultative Forum said its too early to agitate for an event that will hold in the next four years and the current government is not even up to a year.
Yinka Odumakin, the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, also condemn the posting of posters saying though the politicians were entitled to the campaign, they should contribute their efforts towards the “change” they promised Nigerians, which, according to him, Nigerians have yet to see.”
