The Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, has extended his sympathy to the family of the woman and her child who were burnt to death during a truck accident in Onitsha.
The Governor has asked the owners of properties that were destroyed by the fire accident, shop owners inclusive of converging at the Conference Room of the Secretary to the State Government on October 21, 2019, in order to see what the Anambra State Government can do to assist them.
The accident happened on Wednesday after a tanker carrying Petrol fell into a pit and began to spill out its contents. The spillage eventually caused a fire outbreak and quickly spread.
Though Anambra State Fire Servicemen arrived at the scene on time with their equipment but effort to control the fire proved abortive as the angry mob on the scene hindered other fire trucks, likewise the one from neighbouring Asaba in Delta State, from coming to the scene.
According to the statement by the Commissioner for Information & Public Enlightenment, Don Adinuba, “An investigation panel will be formed as soon as possible to know how the accident was caused, the reason firefighters were not able to quench the fire and how the condition of the victims can be compensated.”
