Four African players have been named among the 30-man shortlist to battle Lionel Messi, Christiano Ronaldo and Virgil van Dijk for the 2019 Ballon d’Or.
The four were among the nominees named by France Football on Yesterday (Monday) evening.
Some premier League stars like Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Hugo Lloris also make a list, joined by Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and Ajax’s former Southampton player, Dusan Tadic.
PSG striker Kylian Mbappe and Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold made the 30-strong list, as well as Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre terStegen and Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek.
There is no place for Paris St Germain’s and Brazil forward, Neymar, who is missing out for the first time.
Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva, Spurs striker Son Heung-min and Bayern Munich’s Poland international frontman Robert Lewandowski also made the list. Joined with Karim Benzema and Matthijs de Ligt.
Liverpool duo Alisson Becker and Georginio Wijnaldum bothChampions League winner join other candidates.
