Prof Jerry Gana, a one time Minister of Information and National Orientation, has told the National Assembly and other political parties to take President Muhammadu Buhari and his cliques in the executive arm of government accountable.
Gana advises the politicians to take note that the government carry out its activities in conformity to the rule of law.
“Any government that doesn’t respect the rule of law had failed even if he makes provisions for infrastructure.”, he added.
He said this at the inauguration of the Nigerian Prize for Leadership – Team of technical experts, in Abuja, on Thursday.
Prof. Anya Anya (Chairman), Mrs. Dorothy Ufot, Prof. Joy Ogwu, Justice George Ogebeh, Senator Abubakar Mahdi, and Senator Ibrahim Idah are Members of the Governing Board of the NPL While Members of the technical team of experts included Prof. Oye Ibidapo Obe (Chairman), Mr. Mansur Ahmed (Vice-Chairman), Senator Helen Esuene, Alhaji Mohammed Imam, Prof. Mosto Onuoha, Dr. Sarah Alade, Mr John Momoh, and Prof. Chidi Odinkalu.
The former presidential aspirant said, “Politically, the number one area of taking the government responsible is towards the elected representatives of their members that may be in the House of Representatives and Senate. It is greatly important that the elected senators and members of the House do their constitutional role, which is to be the landmark.”
“They ought to be available for the people to enable the government governs under the law and base on the needs of Nigerians and direct excellently, effectively and with transparency. The primary responsibility of the government is the security and welfare of the people.”
“They must take accountability because if they don’t, the government will ensure to carry out what they like. I hope the House of Reps and Senate are doing that.”
