President Muhammad Buhari has dismissed the rumours that he is planning to amend the constitution to extend the two-term limit for Presidents to third-term so he could contest again.
This was made known in a statement released by Mr Garba Shehu, the president Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, which says,
“it is actually glaring that there was an attempt in the past by other presidents to change the constitution to permit them to contest for a third term, such an attempt was wrong and not in line with our constitution, so this will not start under the administration of Buhari.”
He further said, President Buhari, as a democrat, gives prompt respects to the constitution and would not join hands to support such activity with the mindset to alter it.”
“President Buhari intention has been to serve Nigeria with his full second elected term in office which is expected to end 2023, and then there conduct a general election in which he will not be a candidate.”
“There is not even the faintest possibility that this will change.”
