Nigerian fans have lauded the decision of New Orleans Pelicans centre Jahlil Okafor to represent for Nigeria at the 2020 Olympic Games.
The decision of Okafor was made known by the Nigeria Basketball Federation on their Twitter page on Monday.
Some of the fans, who shared their feelings on the post, welcomed the 24-year-old for deciding to play for D’Tigers.
“Long overdue, or was he waiting for US team to call him up. #Wisedecision,” journalist, Sam Mbonu, tweeted.
“Dual nationality but he chose to play for us. He’s very much welcome,” Dominic Ebi also tweeted.
Another Twitter user, Krisfly, said Okafor would be a worthy replacement for Ike Diogu.
“Biggest news of this century. This is big. Wow. Actually, this guy has potential to be NBA all-star. Finally, a worthy replacement for Diogu,” he tweeted.
“Diogu can move fully to the power forward position with Jalil as Centre and probably Alade Aminu as replacement from the bench,” @_skillzz also tweeted.
Okafor was the No.3 pick in the NBA draft in 2015.
