1 min read

Former England and Liverpool star Peter Crouch has contributed to reports that Harry Redknapp is likely to become the new head coach of the Super Eagles by jokingly announcing he has acquired his Nigerian passport.

There were doubts about the future of current Eagles coach Gernot following the expiration of his contract.

And The Star claims the Nigeria Football Federation was considering offering 73-year-old Redknapp the job to replace Rohr.

That left football fans on social media joking it could see Redknapp trying to bring his former players Crouch, Jermain Defoe and Niko Kranjcar back together to play for him.

And reacting to the report, Crouch Twitted, “So excited to get my Nigerian passport through today #gosupereagles ”

Former Liverpool and Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam responded to Crouch’s Tweet: “You better make sure Peter Odemwingie doesn’t just turn up!”

Crouch, 39, scored 22 times in 42 appearances for England and played for Redknapp at Southampton, Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur.

During his time at Liverpool, Crouch won the FA and the Community Shield both in 2006.

He was teammate with former Nigeria international Osaze Odemwingie at Stoke City.

He made his England debut in 2005, scored 22 goals in 42 appearances before retiring from international football in 2010.

He represented England at the Germany 2006 and South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cups.
